Anniversary Clocks - The 400-Day Clock

An anniversary always elicits memories that can make one sentimental-be it a birthday, wedding or any other remembrance. Feelings are attached with it. On an emotional landscape a gift can reinforce the importance of the event. Perhaps that was one of the main reasons why branded Bulova anniversary clocks are gifted. But as the story goes, one of the original watchmakers of Bowler & Burdock Company witnessed a servant winding the dials of the chandelier clock way back in the early century. He was adjusting the time. It was rather like stopping the time and clinching the rare moments. That’s exactly what couples want to do when the time comes once in a year! Time and tide do not wait for man, woman or clocks going haywire. But with the emergence of anniversary clocks, one can still beckon the blast from the past. Covered with crystal or glass, these smaller versions of grandfather clocks have a timeless beauty of their own.

It’s that time of the year, to fall in love again. Anniversary clocks are patented and one can find beautiful heart shaped (naturally) clocks encased in glass or crystal. They can also be personalised with a heartfelt message or a motivational quote as a cherished souvenir. Vintage and contemporary designs are combined too. Try a wrought iron easel stand design. If not an anniversary, it makes a perfect bridal shower gift. A total modern and sublime design is the time cube which can make it to the personal desk or study room. If you want to remember every hour, have a pendulum oscillating in motion every hour to the sound of music. Young couples look for wacky designs or patterns of clocks. Amongst a good range is the ‘No sex till six designs which features the number six on every hour! Another one is a love magnet design that is bound to impress.

After all it has magnetic poetry. In 1901, Bowler & Burdock Co., Cleveland, Ohio copyrighted the term ‘Anniversary Clocks’. They have a slow torsion pendulum which is wound annually. It is unlike the normal pendulums. The normal pendulum swings left and right but the spring wound pendulum rotates clockwise and also anti-clockwise. It is also called a 400-day clock. It is much different from the other brands like Howard Miller or Silver Bevel or Danbury that have improvised versions. Each has its timeless quality and value.
